Gladiator Sparring Rules

 

SPARRING

 

  1. This is a continuous sparring match using the flag system. There will be NO POINT COUNTING.
  2. Two or three judges and one center referee will be used. At the end of each round, center referee shall call for judges to score winner of the round- red flag for red, blue flag for blue, or not flag for tie. At the end of both rounds, the competitor with the most flags wins the match. In the result of a tie, competitors will spar for a third round.
  3. Length: All matches will be 2 rounds of 1 minute each with a 30 second break between rounds.
  4. Exhibition: Matches will be scored as normal. At the end of each match, both opponents receive first place.

 

Sparring competitors will be matched based on weight and rank.

 

JUDGING CRITERIA FOR DECIDING A WINNER:

      

  1. Offense: Set up and contact to legal target area. Use of speed and/or faking to create striking opportunities.
  2. Defense: Ability to evade attacks, blocking attacks, or keeping opponent at bay.
  3. Control: Fight management, maintaining composure, sportsmanship, controlling opponent.

 

TKD REQUIRED EQUIPTMENT:

 

  1. Shin/instep pads, gloves, groin cup (m), chest protector, head gear, and mouth guard.
  2. The designated “red” contestant must be in red chest gear, and likewise for the “blue” contestant.

 

TKD LEGAL TECHNIQUES:

 

  1. A kick with the foot (any surface below the ankle) to designated scoring area.
  2. A straight punch to target chest area using the fore-fist only, that alters the opponents position, movement, or direction. ( Not to face or head.)

 

TKD ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES:

 

  1. 1. Any hand technique that is executed toward any part of the face, head, or neck.
  2. Any kick where part of the leg, other than the foot, is used to strike with. (shin, knee..)

 

TKD LEGAL TARGET AREA CONTACT RULES:

  1. All Contestants: Torso- Target for kicking and punching is the torso. No attacking directly along spinal area.
  2. Advanced Ranks and Black Belts Only: CONTROLLED kicks to the head. Execution of kicks to the head are permitted, but must be pulled and controlled.

 

SUMMARY OF TAEKWONDO CONTACT RULES:

 

  1. A valid foot or hand technique to the torso is a legal technique.
  2. Hand contact anywhere to the face or head is cause for disqualification from the match.
  3. Only Advanced and Black Belt competitors may kick to the head, and must execute control while doing so. Excessive force in head kicks is gum jun and will result in disqualification from the match.
